What to do first
Fire, or danger to anyone's life
Get everyone out and call 999 first. Then tell us.
You can smell gas
Do not use switches, flames or electrical items. Open doors and windows, leave the property and call the National Gas Emergency line on 0800 111 999. Then tell us.
Power cut
Check whether neighbours have power. If they don't, call 105 (the free power cut line). If only your home is affected, call us.
Major leak or flooding
Turn off the water at the stopcock (usually under the kitchen sink) and keep away from wet sockets and switches. Then call us.
Sparking, a burning smell or exposed wires
If it is safe to do so, switch off at the fuse box. Do not touch anything wet. Then call us.
Your home is not secure
For example a broken front door, lock or ground-floor window. Call us.
